Menstrual Health Matters: Empowering Adolescent Girls with Dignity

For many girls in India, the onset of menstruation brings not just biological change, but also shame, fear, and silence. In underserved regions, this natural process is shrouded in stigma and misinformation. AIM Foundation has made it a mission to change that through direct, community-based education and hygiene initiatives.

Each month, AIM provides sanitary napkins to schoolgirls across rural districts in West Bengal. This seemingly small act has massive implications—it prevents school dropouts, improves self-esteem, and fosters awareness around reproductive health. Girls who once hid their periods now speak about them openly in AIM’s adolescent health awareness sessions.

These programs don’t just distribute products—they offer education on body autonomy, hygiene, nutrition, and emotional changes during puberty. This holistic approach demystifies menstruation and encourages a culture of dignity and dialogue.

Self-defense workshops and leadership activities complement these efforts, teaching girls that strength is not just physical—it’s emotional and intellectual too. By equipping girls to understand and advocate for their own health, AIM is planting seeds of empowerment that extend beyond adolescence.

In communities where girls’ voices are often unheard, AIM Foundation is making them leaders—one pad, one lesson, and one conversation at a time.
