Skill Training Expansion in Jalpaiguri: A Step Toward Self-Reliance
Empowerment begins with access—access to education, to opportunities, and most importantly, to skills that help individuals shape their own futures. In line with this belief, AIM Foundation is proud to announce the expansion of our computer and geoinformatics training initiatives to a new rural center in Jalpaiguri, near the Gorumara Jungle.
This new center marks a significant milestone under our Dhriti Foundation initiative, which is dedicated to equipping youth—especially those from underserved and remote areas—with practical IT and technical skills. With existing centers already running in Kasba (Kolkata) and Rangkhila (East Bardhaman), this addition aims to bring career-focused training to the doorstep of rural communities in North Bengal.
The Jalpaiguri center is equipped with modern computer labs and skilled instructors trained in delivering both basic and advanced courses. Students are introduced to tools like MS Office Suite, GIS & Remote Sensing (using ArcGIS and QGIS), AutoCAD, and other industry-relevant software. This allows them to prepare for real-world jobs in sectors like urban planning, agriculture mapping, disaster management, and environmental research.
In its initial weeks, the center has already enrolled over 40 students, with more showing interest daily. Most of these learners come from farming families or economically constrained backgrounds, with limited exposure to digital tools. For them, this training opens the door to new employment opportunities—both locally and beyond.
What sets this program apart is its hands-on, project-based learning approach. Students work on simulated assignments such as creating land use maps or plotting survey data. Regular assessments and mentorship ensure that every student gains confidence, not just competence.
By decentralizing skill development, AIM Foundation is addressing one of the key barriers rural youth face—migration for education. Our goal is to help young people earn where they live, contributing to their local economy while pursuing their personal growth.
This expansion reflects our belief that sustainable development begins at the grassroots. We thank our partners, donors, and volunteers who made this center possible, and we look forward to many more success stories emerging from Jalpaiguri.
