Bridging the Gap: Supporting First-Generation Learners

 For children from marginalized communities, entering the world of formal education can be intimidating. When no one at home has gone to school, the pressure to drop out early is high. AIM Foundation understands this struggle and has built a strong support system to uplift first-generation learners.

Through their education centres and smart classrooms in places like Jalpaiguri, Rangakhila, and Kailaspur, AIM ensures that learning is personalized and non-intimidating. Teachers and volunteers provide academic mentoring while also offering emotional support—essential for children who lack an educational role model at home.

Simple things like regular attendance, understanding homework, or speaking confidently in English are milestones for these children. AIM celebrates these victories. Students are encouraged to participate in storytelling sessions, debates, and quiz competitions to nurture their confidence.

Families are not left out. AIM regularly hosts parent meetings where caregivers are educated on the importance of continued schooling. This builds understanding and reduces dropout rates significantly. In many cases, parents themselves are inspired to join literacy programs or encourage siblings to enroll.

By helping children break the cycle of illiteracy and insecurity, AIM Foundation is turning education into an accessible, family-centered journey. First-generation learners are no longer alone—they are part of a growing, supportive movement toward change.

 AIM Foundation recently conducted a transformative workshop focused on menstrual hygiene awareness—a subject still considered taboo in many parts of India. With the vision of breaking silence and empowering adolescent girls, the workshop was led by a dedicated team including Dr. Ghosh, Ms. Nibedita Basu, and Dr. Banani Dutta.
